SOFTWARES USED IN ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONICS ENGINEERING





There are different softwares which are used by electrical and electronics engineers. Some of them are listed below:

1. Proteus Design Suite

The Proteus design suite is a proprietary software tool used primarily for electronic design automation. The software is used mainly by electronic design engineers and technicians to create schematics and electronic prints for manufacturing printed circuit boards. The Proteus design suite is a windows application for schematic capture, simulation, and PCB layout design. Proteus is ahead in simulating the circuit containing the microcontroller where we can simulate the circuit by uploading the hex code to the micro-controller, whereas Multisim canʼt do this. In Proteus, we can visualize the 3D view of the PCB layout.

2. Multisim

National instrument Multisim (formerly Multisim) is an electronics schematic capture and simulation program. Multisim includes microcontroller simulation (formerly known as MultiMCU ), as well as integrated import and export feature to the printed circuit board layout software in the suite, NI Ultiboard. Multisim is widely used in academia and industry for circuit education, electronic schematic design, and spice simulation.

3. Eagle

Eagle is a scriptable electronic design automation (EDA) application with schematic capture, printed circuit board (PCB) layout, auto-router, and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) features. It allows back-annotation to the schematic and auto-routing to automatically connect traces based on the connection defined in the schematic. 

4. Matlab

MATLAB is a high-level language and interactive environment that lets you focus on your course work and application, rather than on low-level administrative tasks (such as declaring variables, specifying data types, and allocating memory). It enables you to solve many numerical problems in a fraction of the time it takes to write a program in a lower-level language such as Java, C, C++, or FORTRAN. You can also use MATLAB to analyze and visualize data using automation capabilities, thereby avoiding manual repetition common with other products. MATLAB allows matrix manipulations, plotting of functions and data, implementation of algorithms.

5. R

R is a free software environment for statistical computing and graphics. The R language is widely used among statisticians and data miners for data analysis. The source code for the R software environment is written primarily in C, FORTRAN, and R. R provides an ever-expanding library of statistical (linear and nonlinear modeling, classic statistical tests, time-series analysis, classification, clustering, etc.) and graphical techniques. 

6. PowerWorld Simulator

PowerWorld Simulator is an interactive power system simulation package designed to simulate a high voltage power system operation on a time frame ranging from several minutes to several days. The software contains a highly effective power flow analysis package capable of efficiently solving systems of up to 250,000 buses. The functionality of PowerWorld Simulator can be increased by adding several additional add-on to the base simulator package. The add-ons can be used for Distributed Computing, adding the effect of Geomagnetically Induced Currents (GIC), integrated topology processing, optimal power flow, transient stability, voltage stability (PVQV) and many more.
